# 2 - Multiplication

## Multiplication

Doing a multiplication is adding a number several times. For instance :

2 × 3 = 6
4 × 4 = 16
3 × 5 = 15

When you calculate 2 times 3 you calculate 3 + 3 (you add 3 twice), when you calculate 4 times 4 you calculate 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 (you add 4 four times), when you calculate 3 times 5, you calculate 5 + 5 + 5 (you add 5 three times).

What is the value of 4 × 1 ?

## Multiplication tables

To go faster when calculating multiplications, you have to learn multiplication tables, that is to say learning by heart all the results of the multiplications with 1 number. It is a big thing to do! Fortunately, in this first Grade, you have to learn only the 2 times, 3 times, 4 times, and 5 times tables. Here are all the results you have to learn. Good luck!
