Now we will learn to read or write large numbers. Study the following examples then try to do the problems!

The thousands

The number 1000 is "one thousand". The number after 1000 is 1001 "one thousand and one". The number after 1001 is 1002 "one thousand and two"... Look at the following examples with thousands numbers.

How do you write with figures the number Ten thousand ten ?

The millions

999 999 is "Nine hundred ninety nine thousand nine hundred ninety nine". The following number, 1 000 000, is "one million". When a number is made of 6 to 8 figures, you must say first the number of millions, then the number of thousands, finally the hundreds, tens, and units.

The billions

When a number is made of 10 to 12 figures, you say first the number of billions, then the number of millions, then the number of thousands, then the hundreds, tens, and units. Examples :

When a number is made of more than 12 figures, you say first the number of billions, then the numbers of millions, then the numbers of thousands, then the hundreds, tens, and units.
